13 Ground Rules for Job Success in the Information Age Become a quick change artist: Show high capacity for adjustment. Organizations want people who adapt -- fast -- not those who resist. Speed up: Develop a reputation as one who pushes action and change; create a high-velocity operation. Kaizen and Total Quality Control for Market Leadership - Part 1

Many experts believe that what propelled Japanese Companies - from Car Manufacturing to Home Electronics to the top positions in the global markets is - "Kaizen". Kaizen is a Japanese word that can be translated as Constant and Perpetual Improvement in all aspects - in Quality of our Products, Services , Solutions. Also in our relationships - in how we deal with all Stakeholders - our customers, business partners and associates. In 1950s, Gen. McCarthur commissioned Dr. Deming to help Japanese industries improve the quality of their products. Dr. Deming eventually was hailed as the "Father of the Japanese Economic Miracle" for introducing Total Quality Control to Japanese companies. Japanese employees - in multinational companies - both engineers and business-function staff constantly and relentlessly strive to improve the quality of our products, services and processes and relationships, little by little , everyday. This can be evident in every episode of the TV s...

Customer support is is like a team sport.

Like Volleyball, the Helpdesk /Regional Support Engineers accepts the initial impact of the ball, but if he cannot return it, passes it on to Tier 3 support who sets it up in the air for the Development team to execute the "killer spike" . Each player , if he is able to can return the ball to the opponent, but the game is best played when they all work as a team. In the end, the team with stronger players with a great teamwork wins. And the victory of winning is enjoyed by our customers.

Hello Family and friends, Indeed, I was shocked and saddened to hear the news that Ka Erdy had left us in this vale of tears. http://www.gmanews.tv/ largevideo/related/47135/ saksi-ka-erdy-an-influential- figure-in-world-of-politics I was hoping na sya na ang maghahatid sa atin sa Bayang Banal. Thank you Tita Cory

Image
Today, I am wearing a yellow polo shirt at the office to celebrate the life and pay my last respects to the Philippines' very own former President - Corazon C. Aquino - fondly called - Tita Cory. Admittedly, I did not approve of what has become the Aquino administration - although I was hopeful that it would change Philippine politics radically. But I respected Madamme President for for great accomplishments - as the country's first female leader , and for not too bad presidency after all. She ran against strongman ruler Pres. Marcos in a snap election - against all odds - againt the fear of being assasinated herself like her husband, Ninoy. I admire her courage and that will live long even after she was gone. Her words continue to reverberate in the hearts of the Filipino people - "Magnanimous in Victory". And when the snap elections failed - she is one of the leaders of the People Power revolution that shook the former dictator out of the Malacanang Palace....

Thought for the Day - On Communications

"The Result of the Communications is the Response that you Get" - Anthony Robbins Ironically, inspite of multiple modes of communications - chat, e-mails, voice, voice-mail, video etc. - we can see communications break down at large organizations. Why is that? I think our too much reliance on e-mails - which is not exactly a perfect form of communications - cause problems. When sending e-mail people almost always presume that the other party completely understands the thought and emotions he wanted to convey. Only to findout later that the other party, in a totally different circumstances, culture or region can sometimes misinterpret the texts. Eventually, it spirals down into a series of altercation, arguing , fire mails or long threads that accomplish little and worse - blaming game. How will you evaluate that you did an effective communication ? Is not in the grammar or the beauty of words or technical details - its in the actual results earned from that correspo...

Checkout this PacMan vs. Hitman video! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMBlRBgazgI Developed countries can never replicate how the Philippines train her boxers. They were trained from childhood - on the streets - in countryside schools - where in some places "survival of the fittest " is still the rule. I'm not saying thats good, it its sure is a helluva boxing training.

Recommended book for Customer Service

The book that I am reading now and that I recommend to those who interact with the customer - Services and Sales primarily is - CEO Speak - Profitable Customer Relationships. What struck me is the article by Beatriz Infante - former CEO of Aspect Communications and responsible for growing the company at the turn of the millenium, entitled Customer Focus. I learned that the best way to satisfy your customer is to focus on Customer Success rather than customer satisfaction. In the end your customer's will be loyal to you if you help them succeed in the long term and offer solutions for their growth. Its a Win-Win strategy.

Filipina Girl Wonder captures the Star Sprangled Banner and the World !

One thing I hate about youtube - its so addictive. After my previous search (see previous blog), I stumbled into the a video of Famous singers singing USA's National anthem on superbowl or something. I collected a few and then discovered a star from my very own native land - a 16 year old girl named Charice singing that song - Star Sprangled Banner - in a dodgers stadium. I looked her up in Wikipedia. She's allover youtube and trotting accross the physical world as well. So checkout this playlists - a collection of Charice, SSB reditions, Celine, Whitney, and others : LINK: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=56F868A1DD0B672B Or play it here:

Funny Videos Vol.1 - Naked Gun from the Police Squad Series

I was watching a movie about Queen Elizabeth - when I recalled watching one of the funniest series I ever saw -- Naked Gun. I laughed so hard when I saw that scene with the star policeman , amidst all the care and respect prepared by the force for the Queen visiting U.S. , though some accidents landed himself on top of "her Majesty". Still have not found that scene but anyways, heres my little collection from you tube with some videos from Naked Gun. Do yourself a favor and laugh it out! (hopefully not in the office or in the train).

Please Help save children's lives

Image
Just saw a leaflet in my mailbox (physical) from Unicef Japan. It has photographs of poor, sick children and I was struck by their sad eyes. An amount of money equivalent to my dinner can help buy medicine and food for hundreds of children and save their lives. I will donate a good sum of money for Unicef, wholeheartedly as my obligation to the World and to God. I was lucky to have my parents, relatives and the society which supported me to grow up as a healthy and productive person. I'd like to encourage you to do so if you can. For more info in Japanese you can visit http://www.unicef.or.jp The global site is > http://www.unicef.org/ Many Thanks, Jun

The Joy of Customer Service (Part 1)

Back in the Philippines, I remember when I was a boyscout in elementary school , I liked helping people. Always in the lookout for people in need, I helped an old lady cross the street. Assisted in cleaning the community and offering old clothes for charity. I felt very happy being able to lend a helping hand. Inspite of my sheer strength and meager capabilities, it felt wonderful to be able to make a small difference in this world. But now that I am in Japan, there are not so many old people needing assistance to cross the street. Many elderly people can run up a flight of stairs without help from anybody. Its an aging but healthy society. Everywhere is clean too. How can I help people? Luckily, as an engineer , there are a bunch of people who really need my help. And because of their special needs, I or only a few of my colleagues can help them. They are my customers. Using my experience, background and technical skills, I can make their problems go away. I can help the...

This is the way I brush my teeth, I brush my teeth ...

Image
I remember when I was in kindergarten, I use to sing "This is the way I brush my teeth, I brush my teeth (3x) " while motioning the toothbrush strokes. Well to my surprise , after 35 years, my dentist is saying I wasn't properly brushing my teeth. My dental Xray revealled that I have some "puss" or bacterial mass beneath my big white frontal tooth. How come?, I asked, I brush my teeth 3x a day. Well my dentist said, don't just brush your teeth -- brush your gums as well. It turned out gum diseases such as gingivitis develop if we don't take care of our gums as much as our teeth. And mouthwash everyday is highly recommended. ---Recommended Web Hosting ---- my proven webhosting --- ---------------------------------------------------------------- I hope this blog is not too late to warn you all toothbrusher worldwide to brush your gums softly with a soft toothbrush while you sing -- This is the way...
